AFP Takes Legal Action Against Twitter to Enforce News Agencies’ and Publishers’ Neighbouring Rights

Agence France-Presse (AFP) has expressed its concerns over the clear refusal from Twitter (recently rebranded as ‘X’) to enter into discussions regarding the implementation of neighbouring rights for the press. These rights were established to enable news agencies and publishers to be remunerated by digital platforms which retain most of the monetary value generated by the distribution of news content.

AFP's 2022 results: 5% growth in commercial revenues, new tensions on costs

At its meeting on 20 April 2023, AFP's Board of Directors approved the accounts for the 2022 financial year, which confirm the Agency's continued financial recovery.


The Agency's commercial revenues reached €208.6 million, rising by 5.3% (+10.4 million) compared to 2021, at comparable exchange rates. For the first time in the Agency's history, the €200 million threshold for commercial revenue was exceeded. Business was driven by the Agency's three strategic development areas: video, digital investigation, and corporate and institutional activity.

EFCSN and AFP announce partnership

The European Fact-Checking Standards Network (EFCSN) and Agence France-Presse (AFP) have entered into a partnership that will give European fact-checkers access to AFP content for publication.


Through the partnership, AFP, as a co-founder and verified member of the EFCSN, provides other EFCSN members access to the AFP News platform at preferred conditions.
